Mayor of Westminster is in strong position to take on liberal Congressman Derek Tran
WESTMINSTER, CA – Mayor Chi “Charlie” Nguyen, an engineer, small business owner and community leader, enters the final stretch of the primary campaign with more cash on hand than the rest of the Republican field…combined.
He ended the first quarter of 2026 with $397,239 on hand and no debt.
“Our campaign continues to enjoy a broad base of support from conservative, America First Republicans who know that I represent our party’s best chance at defeating Congressman Tran,” said Nguyen. “We have the resources we need to win the primary, and to carry that momentum all the way through the General Election in November.”
Mayor Nguyen has consistently shown himself to be a winner, drawing support from across the district and articulating a message of economic growth, strong border security and increased opportunity for every family and small business owner in California’s 45th Congressional District.
“I have stood up for President Trump and his America First agenda, because I know that we can never allow the radical left and it’s destructive, socialist policies to take hold in our country,” said Nguyen. “I came to this country with nothing, and only in America can a teenage refugee rise to become the Mayor of his adopted hometown and, eventually, a Member of Congress in the greatest country in the world.”
About Charlie: A native of Vietnam, Nguyen immigrated to the United States as a teenager, all alone, after his father was taken from his family by the Communist regime and placed in a re-education camp. Despite his early challenges, he earned a master’s degree from Cal State University, Long Beach, built a distinguished career in the aerospace industry and became a small business owner. He has served Westminster and the Orange County community for almost 40 years, and last year was named to the Orange County Register’s “125 Most Influential People in Orange County. He and his wife of over three decades, Jacqueline, have three adult children and reside in Westminster.
