Campaign releases long form video introducing the Westminster Mayor along with a 30-second spot to air across the district
WESTMINTER, CA – Westminster Mayor Chi “Charlie” Nguyen, a small business owner and aerospace engineer who escaped communist Vietnam as a 14-year-old child, today released the first ad of the 2026 primary campaign. Along with the 30-second advertisement, which will air across the district, the campaign released a longer-form video. Assisted by AI technology, the video tells the story of the mayor’s fraught escape from communism.
“I love America, with all my heart,” says Nguyen, echoing the opening line of the ad. “Without America, I would have been trapped under an oppressive, communist regime with no hope.”
Nguyen, who recently led the fight in Westminster to dedicate the street in front of City Hall as “Charlie Kirk Way,” has stressed his strong faith, his conservative values, and his unwavering support for President Trump on the campaign trail.
“I know what it’s like to live under a communist regime, which is why I am running for
Congress...I want to give something back to the country that gave me so much,” said Nguyen. “And I will not let the radical left destroy our country or take down our President.”
Nguyen tells the story of his father, who was abducted and taken to a Vietnamese “re-education camp,” as well as his own escape, his journey to America where he leaned on his Christian faith when he feared that all hope was lost, and his career as an engineer. Finally, he underscores his commitment to serve as a conservative leader and take on the radical left in Congress.
Nguyen, who has lived in Orange County, CA for over 40 years, and his wife, Jacqueline, have 3 adult children, and live in Westminster. In addition to serving as Westminster Mayor, Nguyen serves as the Board President of the Midway Sanitation District Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Board of the Orange County Fire Authority.
