Vulnerable incumbent goes on the attack to distract from his left-wing record

WESTMINTER, CA – Westminster Mayor Chi “Charlie” Nguyen, a candidate for Congress in

California’s 45th Congressional District today responded to attacks from vulnerable

incumbent Derek Tran. The Congressman, who was barely elected in 2024, now faces re-

election, having compiled an extremely liberal, out-of-step voting record.

“We are more than five months from the General Election, and already, Congressman Tran

has decided that the only way he can win is to go on the attack,” said Nguyen. “Mr. Tran

knows how vulnerable he is, because his record is extremely liberal, and he’s consistently

opposed President Trump’s America First agenda.”

Nguyen also noted that Congressman Tran is attacking him for choosing to honor Charlie

Kirk. The Mayor was a leading advocate to rededicate Westminster’s All-American Way to

Charlie Kirk Way.

“I don’t see how anyone, certainly not someone who claims to represent all of us, could

oppose the honoring of a young man who was assassinated in the prime of his life,” said

Nguyen. “Charlie gave his life while exercising and protecting our cherished right to free

speech, and I’m very proud to honor him.”

“Derek Tran is wasting no time to wage another nasty, negative campaign. He knows that

he’s vulnerable, and he knows I have the best chance to defeat him in November. I won’t be

intimidated; I will make sure everyone is aware of his far-left voting record, and I will defeat

him in November.”

Nguyen has called Orange County, CA, home for over 45 years. He and his wife, Jacqueline,

have three adult children and reside in Westminster. In addition to serving as Westminster

Mayor, Nguyen serves as the Board President of the Midway City Sanitary District Board of

Directors, as well as a member of the Board of the Orange County Fire Authority.
