Chi Charlie Nguyen (/wɪn/) was born in then free nation of the Republic of Vietnam (Việt Nam Cộng Hòa). After the fall of Saigon in 1975, Charlie's family experienced firsthand the devastating cost of losing freedom. Charlie’s father—a specialist in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam—was imprisoned for years in a Communist “reeducation camp.” As a young man, Charlie learned what it means to live without liberty, without free speech, and without the ability to follow one’s conscience. Risking everything in search of freedom, Charlie escaped Communist Vietnam by sea at the age of 14 and was ultimately granted asylum in the United States.

Arriving in America with nothing but faith and determination, Charlie worked late shifts and early mornings to put himself through school. He graduated from Bolsa Grande High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He went on to build a successful career in the aerospace industry, advancing into senior management by solving problems, meeting deadlines, and delivering results.

A devoted husband and father of three, Charlie has lived in Westminster for more than 35 years. Grateful to the nation that gave him freedom and opportunity,  he  chose to give back through service. For decades, he has worked on behalf of families, workers, and entrepreneurs—serving on the Westminster Tax Measure Citizen and Advisory Commission,  the Orange County Small Business Advisory Council, the Midway City Sanitary District Board of Directors, and  the Orange County Fire Authority Board of Directors.

A proud conservative Republican, Charlie has built a proven record in elected office. In 2016, he was elected Director of the Midway City Sanitary District, defeating a 27-year incumbent. He later served as Westminster City Councilman and Vice Mayor before being elected Mayor of Westminster in 2022. As Mayor, Charlie has delivered results—attracting new businesses, creating hundreds of local jobs, investing in city infrastructure, and practicing responsible budgeting to protect taxpayers. He is also a strong advocate for border security and policies that support law enforcement and ICE while protecting America’s sovereignty.

Now, Chi Charlie Nguyen is ready to bring his lived experience to Congress—keeping neighborhoods safe, lowering costs, and investing in America by strengthening our workforce, from the shop floor to the job site to the office.
