Westminster Mayor Has Fought Authoritarianism for Decades

WESTMINTER, CA – In a shameful and dishonest press release, liberal Republican Chuong Vo yesterday released virulent and misleading accusations against conservative, America First Mayor Charlie Nguyen of Westminster.

In a release following a Republican forum, Vo dishonestly attempted to cast Mayor Nguyen as a supporter of Sharia Law in California. Indeed, Mayor Nguyen has a decades-long history of standing up for America First values and, as a husband and father of two daughters, is repulsed by the notion of Islamic law being enforced in our community.

“In a loud and chaotic room, I misunderstood a question and answered incorrectly,” said Nguyen. “When given the full context of the question, I immediately and forcefully made clear my strong opposition to any system that would do harm to our community, particularly young women, like my two daughters.

“Chuong Vo is well aware of my position on these issues, and he should be ashamed of his baseless and false attack.”

Charlie Nguyen arrived in the United States as a teenager, by himself, with nothing but a the clothes on his back and the American Dream in his heart. Unlike Mr. Vo, Mayor Nguyen actually lived under a repressive, communist regime. As a child, Nguyen watched as his father was snatched away from his family, and confined in a Communist “re-education camp.”

“I’m the one candidate in this race who has lived under authoritarianism, so voters can trust that I will fight, with everything I have, against any attempts to impose these systems in the United States,” Nguyen concluded. “I’m disappointed that Chuong Vo’s desparate campaign has sunk to this level. I intend to keep my campaign positive, and fight for the people of California’s 45th Congressional District.”
