Westminster, CA – March 6, 2026. Today, filing officially closed for the 2026 California primary election, setting the field of candidates for California’s 45th Congressional District. Proven conservative and Westminster Mayor Charlie Nguyen has solidified his status as the leading Republican candidate to take on left-wing incumbent Derek Tran.

“I am proud to be in the fight for the issues that matter most to my neighbors: affordability, public safety, and protecting the freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution,” said Nguyen. “I look forward to a strong campaign based on positive leadership and common-sense solutions.”

Nguyen serves as Mayor of Westminster, where he has focused on strengthening public safety, supporting local businesses, and ensuring responsible fiscal leadership. An aerospace engineer by profession, Nguyen also brings decades of private-sector experience to his extensive public service resume.

At the age of 14, with his dad locked in a communist “re-education camp,” Nguyen fled communist Vietnam. He left behind his family, traveling alone with little more than the clothes he was wearing, in search of freedom and opportunity in the United States. While building a successful career in the aerospace industry, he dedicated his life to serving his community. Nguyen was first elected to public office in 2016 as Director of the Midway City Sanitary District. He later served on the Westminster City Council, including as Vice Mayor, before being elected Mayor of Westminster in 2022. In addition, Nguyen sits on the Orange County Fire Authority Board of Directors.

A Westminster resident for more than 45 years, Nguyen is a devoted husband and father of three. His campaign for Congress is focused on addressing affordability, strengthening public safety, and defending the constitutional freedoms that make the American Dream possible.

The California primary election will be held on June 2, 2026, and the general election will take place on November 3, 2026. they want to be part of it.
