McClintock and Brown Tied--At Least 50,000 Votes Left to CountNovember 5th, 2008 As of this evening, the election for the Fourth Congressional District is in a virtual tie, with just 400 votes separating Charlie Brown and Tom McClintock, and at least 50,000 absentee ballots and provisional ballots left to be counted. In response, Charlie issued the following statement: "I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to every single voter who participated in yesterday's historic election. It appears we are headed for a record turnout. We understand that there are still more than 40,000 ballots remaining to be processed, and we will not know the outcome of this election until all of those votes are counted. Our priority today is to support a fair and accurate count of every ballot. I want to thank the election department staffs and directors of all of the counties who are working so hard and so well to assure an accurate count. I want to thank my wife Jan, my entire family and my entire campaign team for all of their tremendous work during these past many months. I am proud of the campaign we ran-one focused on putting patriotism before partisanship and solving problems. While I remain very confident that we will prevail once all the ballots are counted, I know that this team has already won important battles for veterans, for families facing tough economic times and for so many other important priorities." ELECTION DAY---VOTE!November 3rd, 2008 Today marks the most important election in a generation--in the Fourth District, and across America. Having devoted my life to defending our nation, and the past seventeen years living, working and raising my family in our community, I understands both the stakes and the consequences of the choice we will make today. We launched this campaign to solve problems. That's why we've released detailed plans to keep America safe, create new jobs and greater prosperity, and eliminate America's dependence on foreign oil.
It's why we haven't waited to make a difference--donating more than $90,000 in campaign funds to help local veterans and families in need---because I believe that leaders must lead by example. I know that if we are going to get our country back on track, we must put partisan loyalties aside to do what's best for our country, and deliver results. These are the values that have guided my life, and if you honor me with your vote, they are the standard by which I will serve as your voice in Congress. Today, you have a chance to change Washington. Please make your voice heard. Sincerely, Charlie Brown, Lt. Col. USAF Ret. Promises Kept--The History We've Made TogetherNovember 3rd, 2008 Together, we've accomplished so much already in this campaign---mobilizing thousands of people from all walks of life and across the political spectrum to create real change in District Four and across the country. We have made history by making this campaign about something bigger than politics, and we've made a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors in need by devoting 5% of campaign funds towards helping veterans and their families.
Last Friday, together with House of Representatives Veterans Caucus Co-Chair Mike Thompson at his side, Charlie distributed another $40,500 to 9 deserving organizations--bringing the "Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge" total to more than $94,000 for the cycle. "Promises Kept" has done something no mailer, no radio ad or tv commercial can ever do--it's helped local groups house the homeless, feed the hungry, aid veterans in financial crisis, distribute care packages to soldiers serving in harm's way right now, and helped those fresh off the battlefield transition to civilian life. Please click here to learn more about this historic program, and our beneficiaries. Charlie may be the only candidate for public office to make such an historic commitment, but we know with your continued support, he will not be the last. Years of partisan bickering and failed policies in Washington have produced record deficits, record energy prices, skyrocketing healthcare costs, record foreclosures, and rising unemployment.
At the expense of taxpayers, Tom McClintock gets free healthcare, a free government car, free gas, a generous salary and tax-free per diems--whether he does his job or not. It's not surprising that he's promising more of the same policies that created this mess. Charlie Brown knows what this crisis means for families that are struggling to keep their jobs, meet the mortgage, fill their gas tanks, pay for healthcare, educate their children, and save for retirement. And that's why Charlie will fight to restore our economy, create new jobs here in District 4 and strengthen America's middle class. Read Charlie Brown's American Jobs Plan Here

Col. Charlie Brown---a career military officer, decorated combat veteran, and parent to an active duty son who has served 4 rotations in Iraq. Brown has also given more than $50,000 in campaign funds to northern California veterans service providers, and challenged candidates at all levels in both political parties to offer our military, their families and veterans more than empty election year words. Instead of accepting Brown's invitation to help veterans, McClintock has assembled the worst record on military and veterans issues in the California Legislature. His campaign has also called the plight of war veterans a "non story."
